Doveton won the league that year on goal difference from Burnley and the one loss for the year is also a club record.
1977 would be Dovetons most successful year for that period with both the Seniors and Reserves winning the league.
This was the first year Doveton played Mooroolbark who are ranked 2nd in the clubs Doveton have ever played against.
1978 was the first year that Doveton played in the Metropolitian league Division one which saw us play Croydon for the first time along with Waverley City now known as Eastern Lions who finished second last and were relegated to Division 2 where they remained there for 28 years until they were relegated to Division 3 in 2007. Croydon won the league that year with Doveton finishing 5th.
1980 would see Doveton finish as league Champions just 1 point clear of Ringwood and were promoted to now the Premier League.
The 80's would see Doveton move between the Premier League and Div 2 and 1988 would see Sandringham and Doveton promoted back to Div 1 which would see Sandringhams last League Championship win.
Moving into the 90's, Doveton slid down the league ladders but 1990 would be Doveton's most successful year since 1977 with again the Seniors and Reserves winning the league's and seeing Doveton promoted to the now Premier League once again. Danny Neild was the league's highest goal scorer with 17 goals.

The 90's weren't the best years for the club sliding down from Premier league to Provisional 2 in the late 90's.
